You can get everything from crepes to tacos to grilled cheese sandwiches out of the back of a truck these days, along with any Asian-Mexican-European fusion combo in between. It's all a familiar part of the L.A. landscape now (one cool new development: There's now a "mobile food court" at Alameda and Traction where the trucks occasionally drop anchor).
That doesn't mean it isn't fun to dip in when one of these movable feasts pulls up to your curb, though. And since we're suckers for cupcakes, we couldn't help snarfing down a couple when Dainty Cakes L.A. pulled up outside the Japanese American National Museum on Saturday.

And when Sabrina and Maddy showed up with a boxful of cupcakes from Lark in Silver Lake, we decided to just give in to the sugar rush and "frost" ourselves!
As part of JANM's Target Family Day, the first 200 guests got vouchers for free cupcakes from Dainty Cakes' truck. Since there was such a swell variety of flavors, we just had to buy at least one more, of course! We sampled the lemon-blueberry cupcake, and this peanut butter-chocolate combo lathered with frosting:

The lemon-blueberry was moist and well-balanced. I was a little disappointed by the other cupcake, though, since underneath the frosting, the cupcake was burnt!

Maddy and Sabrina helped us out with some cookie-decorating and flower-making activities. Then we packed it up, since Aki was fighting off yet another bug! Later, though, we got to share the Lark goodies Sabrina had brought us with Yuri's family.
Okay, so here is an amazing cupcakery. Not only do you get show-perfect frosting and piping, but you get a delicious variety of distinctive tastes and a good match of frosting-cake flavors.
The carrot cupcake with cheesecake frosting was probably my favorite: Many bakeries make this type of cupcake too dry, but this was one moist and satisfying treat. This layered tower of Oreo goodness was pretty impressive, too!
Mom and Dad dipped split a cupcake that looked like it might be another chocolate/peanut butter combo. It turned out to be mocha frosting instead, and was also a knockout. (Did I lick my plate afterward? Yes.)
